21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (2024)

When it comes to parties or celebrations of any kind, I am not one to hold back on any aspect of them. I absolutely love hosting and organizing parties, whether it be for Christmas or a birthday.

I recently attended my first baby shower, and although I was not the one who organized it, it most definitely got me thinking about how I would do so if the opportunity ever fell into my overly enthusiastic hands. The woman who hosted the baby shower had done the most incredible job, with everything baby themed from the decorations right down to the food and drinks she had made.

Few people deserve more attention and pampering than expectant mothers, so why not go all out on their special day? You don’t have to spend a lot of money, there are hundreds of themed DIYs out there, and even non-themed ones which you can easily adapt. It’ll be all about the baby soon, so make sure she gets a special day that is all about her.

DIY Baby Shower Decorations

1. Paper LanternDecorations

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (2)

This doesn’t necessarily sound incredibly exciting on the first read, but just look at these DecorativePaper Lanterns. They are incredibly pretty, and to be honest, I would probably put these up for a baby shower and never take them down again.

If you want to steer clear of overly ornate decorations, then these are a great idea. Against an otherwise neutral room, these would add a nice little pop of color and would be especially useful in pink or blue dependant on the gender of the baby if you know it. You could make these in any sizes you wanted to, and even use mixes of different colors if you wanted to. I think along with other more minimal decorations, these would look cool above a buffet table as the main attraction.

2. Diaper Wreath

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (3)

If you can’t make something decorative entirely out of diapers for a baby shower then when else can you? This Diaper Wreath is a bit of fun and, if you don’t crumple them too much, the mother-to-be can even keep the diapers for her little arrival.

It’s incredibly easy to make, and could probably even be pulled together on the morning of the shower if you were running a little bit last-minute. You could add extra decorations onto it too, which I think would just make it look that bit more personal. In this example, they have made a ‘Welcome Baby’ ribbon, but you could go even further by adding baby shoes or socks to the wreath, attaching them with some wire or a hot glue gun.

3. Showering Umbrella

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (4)

I am embarrassed to admit how long it took me to understand why I kept seeing rain or umbrella themed decorations when having a scroll through some decoration ideas. Of course, it alludes to the term baby ‘shower,’ and I must say once I discovered the pun I liked it rather a lot.

There are so few materials involved in making this Showering Umbrella, and you could even use your own umbrella as it won’t get damaged in the process. I think it would be a lot of fun to take inspiration from this and make it the theme of the celebration, with little co*cktail umbrellas in the drinks and clouds hanging from the walls.

4. Floral Balloon

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (5)

Baby shower or not, I will most definitely be trying out this DIY. This Floral Balloon looks so incredibly natural and pretty, and I can imagine that any woman would love it.

I am sure that you could use real flowers, but by using fake ones as they do here you ensure that the balloon will last longer, and the expectant mother can even take it home to keep as a memoir of the day. It will look stunning to have a row of these along the wall, or even better scattered around a garden if you are lucky enough to have conditions that allow you to have the party outside. If you want to make it more themed, you could use blue flowers for the celebration of a baby boy.

5. Oh Baby Tablecloth

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (6)

A printed or patterned tablecloth is a great way to bring a bit of color and life to a table. Whether you use this Oh Baby Tablecloth in the space where you would be having food, or placing gifts, I think it would look great.

You don’t need to be a sewing genius to tackle this DIY, and if you use the same colored thread as felt, no one will see if your lines go a little wonky. I like that they have provided a template for the letters used in this example because I am a big fan of the fonts, but of course, you could use any lettering you’d like. With that said, you could go even further in your customization by using different words and colors, and you could even add the name of the baby.

6. No Sew Bunting

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (7)

My mom and granny are both exceptional at sewing. They have been making costumes and adjusting clothes for me for as long as I can remember. I think the sewing gene has skipped a generation with me, however, because I am pretty hopeless at it.

That is one of the reasons why I love this No Sew Bunting, aside from the fact that it looks incredibly pretty of course. Bunting is such a great way to decorate for any occasion, as it is simple but still effective. Make sure to think about who you are throwing the party for, their favorite colors and styles. Another charming thing about this bunting is that the mother-to-be could take it home after the baby shower and hang it in the baby’s nursery.

7. Baby Drinking Bottles

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (8)

The idea to use Baby Drinking Bottles for all the guests at the baby shower is a fun one. It could be hilarious to drag out the ‘adult baby’ theme too, by having pacifier shaped lollypops for example, or giving guests diapers to wear over their clothes. It’s little touches like this that make the shower baby themed and fun for all the guests at the same time.

You could have a lot of fun trying out the different co*cktail and mocktail recipes to put into the bottles, making them match the gender of the baby or having a mix of blue and pink if you don’t yet know it. You can decorate the bottles with little labels and ribbons, just like they have in this example.

8. ‘Ready to Pop’ Station

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (9)

If you are having an afternoon baby shower, or maybe a more informal one, you might not be wanting to make bucketloads of food or proper meals. In that case, something like this ‘Ready to Pop’ Station is a really good idea.

Fill the table with fizzy pop and popcorn, equipped with pretty cups and popcorn boxes as well of course. Make sure to have a ‘Ready to Pop’ sign hanging above to make the most of the pun, and decorate with fun colored balloons. Like in this example, it’s a lovely idea to have little bowls of toppings that guests can add to their popcorn, like chocolate chips, sprinkles or gummy bears.

9. Guess the Birthday

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (10)

To get a little bit of friendly competition rolling during the shower, it’s always a fun idea to have a ‘Guess the Birthday’ game on the go.

I love the look of this particular one, it’s very effective with the colors against the black but still easy to put together, being made up of sticky-notes. At the baby shower I was at recently they had a whole range of ‘guess the…’ games on the go, which was a lot of fun. We were able to put forward our guesses for the weight, name and even time of birth. Make sure to have some fun little prizes up for grabs too.

10. Diaper Cake

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (11)

This Diaper Cake is like a decoration and a gift all in one. Instead of just gifting packets of nappies, why not arrange them as a cake and use it as a centerpiece for the baby shower table.

It is all assembled with ribbon and rubber bands, so no glue will render the diapers unusable. You could let your creative juices run free with this DIY. The base ‘cake’ is so simple, so you could go as over the top as you wanted with the decorations. You could make them baby themed with gender-appropriate ribbons and little shoes, or even entirely not baby themed, with flowers and foliage.

11. Wishes For Baby, Advice For Mum

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (12)

This is the loveliest idea, and would most definitely make any soon to be mother feel supported and loved. It is easy to feel wholly bombarded with information and advice when expecting a baby, so if guests put their advice into these envelopes, the mother can go through them in her own time. You could get guests to prepare their envelopes in advance, or just as quickly have pens and paper on hand on the day.

ThisWishes For Baby, Advice For Mum would be such a lovely thing to keep forever, as the baby can read their envelopes as they grow up. When I was born, my mom had a baby book where people wrote messages to the grown-up me when they first met me, and I thoroughly enjoy reading through them whenever I go home.

12. Baby Clothes Bunting

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (13)

This is another gift within a decoration, and I love anything that serves more than one purpose. I don’t think you could find bunting much cuter than thisBaby Clothes Bunting, and of course, the clothes can then actually be used for the baby.

If a group of you go together to purchase various clothes then you could make a pattern, think onesie, bib, vest, onesie, bib, vest kind of thing. If you are on a smaller budget, I think this would look cute made up of teeny baby socks, maybe even with a bib thrown in here and there. It would take no time at all to make, and there is no doubt that the special lady would be entirely grateful for it.

13. Butterfly Balloons

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (14)

Never mind for a baby shower, I want these Butterfly Balloons all around my house, all the time. They look so professional and store-bought when in reality all you need is regular balloons and some paper butterflies, which would be easy to find in any craft store.

This DIY has also inspired me to think of things you could replace the butterflies with. It could be cool to cover the balloons in pompoms or even something more simple like sequins. I like the multicolored butterflies against the pink or blue balloons because I can’t say that I am the biggest fan of a wholly pink or wholly blue baby shower. A bit of color will always go down well.

14. Mom-osa Bar

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (15)

Baby showers are thirsty work, and you don’t want to be spending your day running between your guests and the kitchen fetching people glasses of various things. To entirely avoid this situation, set up a drinks station where guests can easily help themselves, and you can sit back and relax.

This Mom’osa Bar looks so bright and fun, and I can guarantee that guests would be quite happy making up their own little co*cktail. Remember to have some non-alcoholic options too; you are celebrating an expectant mother after all. This DIY even provides printouts of the juice labels and Mom-osa sign, so it is very simple to put together. Especially in summer, this would be incredibly refreshing, with the fresh fruit and delicious juices.

15. Guess the Guest

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (16)

I absolutely love this Guess the Guest idea, and think it would bring so much hilarity. The idea is that all your guests bring a baby photo of themselves to the shower, you pin them all up together and have to guess which picture belongs to which guest. All you need to set this up is a hung bit of string and some pegs, easy peasy.

I played this once when I was still at school, and it was so funny to see how much people had changed. Because all guests will be friends of the mom-to-be and won’t necessarily know one another, I think it is really good to play a few games like this, just to break the ice and get everyone laughing and celebrating together.

16. Alphabet Boxes

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (17)

Whether you use these as little boxes for party favors or just closed as decorations, these Alphabet Boxes are really sweet. They would give any table a fun kid-themed feel, look pretty much like the real thing and aren’t at all difficult to put together.

This DIY provides a template for the boxes, so all you have to do is print them out and do some folding and sticking. The quality of the template is amazing. The wood looks surprisingly real, and I doubt that anyone would notice that these weren’t real until they picked them up and realized they were light as a feather. I would put a little chocolate in each of these for guests to take home with them.

17. Tassel Garland

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (18)

You could make this Tassel Garland as decoration for any party or event, and it would spruce up any room.

To make it special for a baby shower, you could add some letters to it, simply cut from a card, to spell out ‘Welcome Baby’ or ‘Baby Shower.’ I love the combination of colors they have used in this example, especially the gold which I think makes it look more expensive and celebratory. This garland could easily be reused, or even kept up, as I don’t know many people who would resent having this up in their house 24/7.

18. Elephant Bunting

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (19)

I don’t know why elephants are a commonly used image when it comes to babies, nursery decorations and clothing alike, but they definitely are cute.

If this Elephant Bunting were on display at my baby shower, then I would most definitely be stealing it and hanging it in the baby’s nursery. With the blue and pink alternating like it is in the example, the bunting is gender neutral, which would be perfect for either an unrevealed gender or for twins. Again, the printable template makes this an incredibly easy DIY to make, just be sure to use a pretty colored ribbon to hang the little elephants from.

19. Chalkboard Globe

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (20)

Although it isn’t exactly traveling, having a baby is the beginning of one big adventure, and I think that this Chalkboard Globe is a lovely way of symbolizing that. You can buy these in stores, but it is a kinder gesture to make it yourself, and also probably far cheaper.

On the day of the shower, you could have it ondisplay, with chalks available for guests to write messages of well-wishing to the new baby. After that though, it is something that the new family will be able to keep forever, to document travels on and to plan for their next adventures.

20. Watercolor Balloons

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (21)

These are potentially the prettiest balloons that I have ever seen, and I am so desperate for one of my friends to have a baby now so that I can entirely fill aroom with them.

The whole theme used in this example is stunning as a matter of fact, with the soft pastel colors all mixing so well together without being too in-your-face. These Watercolor Balloons are simple to make, and if you stick to a color scheme when buying paints, then you can’t go wrong with the mixing and mingling of different colors. If the expectant mom is a fan of anything aesthetically pleasing, then there is no doubt that she will love these, and your hard work will probably be all over Instagram within the hour.

21. Baby Sock Rose Flower Bouquet

21 DIY Baby Shower Decorations To Surprise and Spoil Any New Mom-to-Be (22)

Baby socks are potentially the cutest things in existence. Whenever I am in a store and see baby socks I cannot help but ‘aww’ over how tiny and soft and perfect they are. I realize now that I must look pretty strange.

I love the fact that in thisBaby Sock Rose Flower Bouquet, the sock roses are set in amongst real flowers. This means that the recipient will not only be getting a whole load of tiny socks, but also an actual bunch of flowers to brighten up any room they decide to put them in. You could be really creative with colors and types of flower, keeping it simple with a small bouquet or going over the top with a massivedisplay.

Concluding Baby Shower Decorations

All I am thinking about now is which one of my friends might be likely to have a baby sometime soon so I can start planning their baby shower. You really could have so much fun thinking about different themes and then make decorations to fit it, but always remember to bear in mind the favorite things about the mommy you’re celebrating.

I love the look of the Watercolor Balloons and honestly would struggle to choose between all the different beautiful buntings. I think the Mom-osa Station is a genius idea too because it is both fun for guests and practical for hosts.

Have you ever organized a baby shower for a friend? Have any of these decorations given you inspiration for a theme you might want to use?
