DRS raising money for good causes. As well as increasing drink container recycling rates, reducing litter (and the scourge of this on our wildlife and environment), deposit returns schemes are also a great way to raise money for good causes. BCRS Malta has just raised €150,000 for its community fund through donation via RVM. When returning containers users can opt to donate the deposit amount to a registered charity instead of redeeming for cash or goods. With Ireland’s deposit return scheme due to start on the 1st Feb 2024, retailers with RVMs can also get involved in supporting their own local good causes. This can either be done on the RVMs touch-screen by adding a donate to charity button with the registered charities logo or by simply getting customers to drop the RVM printed receipt voucher into a collection tin/ box for the good cause. At the end of each month or period the vouchers can be added up and the values donated by the retailer on behalf of the community as they will not have been paid out at the store. This is another way that operating an RVM can have a postive impact on retailers and the communities they serve.

Merge Café is a place where anyone can come for kai and help with housing. Within the café, we have peer support volunteers, many of whom have come through our support services and want to give back. There's a coat rack where anyone can drop off or take a coat, or hat. So if there was ever a place to meet Teresa Moore, CEO of Catalytic Foundation, our beloved café seems like the obvious choice.Meetings like these are truly inspiring. They're a gentle reminder to pause and reflect on the busy work we do (often in isolation) and think, maybe there's another organisation, another business who might like what we do (or already be doing similar work), who may want to partner up. That is what the Catalytic Foundation is all about. It's about connecting businesses with not-for-profits to maximise social impact. Hard work and good manners may get the job done, but partnerships make everything stronger.

𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬 𝐗 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭🎁.Cool Designs Ltd is supporting the Northumberland Football League's Christmas Toy Appeal.Every year, 50,000+ children in the northeast region wake up without a present at Xmas; for many, this figure is shocking, but this is the reality of how things are. Unfortunately, this is the normality for many to wake up on Christmas morning without a present.Last year, thanks to a lot of generosity, they raised almost £6000 in toy and cash donations.Again, the goal is for Cool Designs to help back this project and do what they can to support it. This collection raises funds to get new toy donations to help ensure kids wake up to a present this Christmas.Every single penny and every toy/gift makes a huge difference. 👉https://lnkd.in/e6Rdfgza#Newcastle #NewcastleBusiness #NUFC #NorthEast #NorthEastBusiness #ToyDonations #Fundraising #GiftAGift

Oh what a week that was On Tuesday 17th of October 2023, despite spending a total of £514, we had 9 homes in need, 32 people facing a night without energy. In addition, we were called by a neighbour of a man who had fallen in his house, and broke his hip, the neighbour had found our number in his phone. We went out and spent time (a couple of days) as an advocate for him, a patient champion for want of a better description. https://lnkd.in/eZdCcGih Wednesday 18th, we received 8 further valid referrals, but had a kind donation of £125, which we matched from local funds and adding a further £248, and had £2 left from the previous day. Spending £500 we resolved 12 homes , leaving 5 without energy. Thursday 19th of October, we got 9 referrals, 8 for energy top-ups, and one for food & energy, that one took £70 to resolve, and we resolved 6 others spending £263, later that evening we had a lady who had localised flooding and resolved that at a cost of £20 https://lnkd.in/ecmHskrf Friday 20th October, we had 11 referrals from social workers, food banks, schools and churches, taking the total to 16 cases, we received a donation of £5, which we had local funds too, and resolved one home, and we received 3 more £20, £60 and £75, to which local funds of £250 were added making £405 and that resolved 10 households. Today, Saturday 21st September, in addition to 5 unaided last night, we have received 7 new valid referrals, and we have spent £259 of local funds and dealt with 6 homes. Currently there are 6 unresolved and that is 22 people in need of some urgent support. We are so grateful to everyone who has donated to our Winter Appeal, between online and offline donations we have nearly reached 70% of our target. However, there is still time to donate! For the next 8 days all donations, up to the value of £250, will continue to be doubled through the Aviva match fund! Demand for our support is greater than ever. Rebuild does not have the resources to support everyone who needs it. Can you help us to ensure that no one recovering from the impact of Modern Slavery in Derbyshire has to rebuild their lives alone but has access to support?
