  Back then, the only way to do it was with cryogenically cooled coil wires. Now we have cheap room-temperature superconductors.

  For those with a little electronics background, vet this :
  . The Resultant Magnetic Force, B = (Amps x Turns) ÷ Coil Width
  . Increasing the Turns allows you to proportionately decrease input Amps to get the same B.
  . Superconductors that are 20 times smaller diameter than copper
  . allow for 400 times more Turns in the same coil space, and therefore
  . allow for 400 times less input Amps to get the same working Resultant Magnetic Force
  . and needs 400 times less batteries. It only needs a small starting capacitor.
