Former president Donald Trump and President Biden dominated Super Tuesday contests with roughly one-third of the delegates at stake that will determine the Republican and Democratic party nominations. Trump’s last remaining major Republican challenger, Nikki Haley scored her first state victory of 2024 with a win in Vermont.

Here's what to know:

The contests took place a day after the Supreme Court unanimously sided with Trump, allowing him to stay on the Colorado ballot. Colorado is among the states holding nominating contests Tuesday.

Tuesday also kicked off the first House and Senate primaries of the year. Among the marquee matchups: a primary for a U.S. Senate seat in California in which Democratic congressman Adam Schiff and former pro baseball player Steve Garvey advanced to November’s election in the race for the seat previously held by Dianne Feinstein, the Associated Press projected.

President Biden is scheduled to deliver a highly anticipated State of the Union address Thursday before traveling to the battleground states of Pennsylvania and Georgia on Friday and Saturday.

Election 2024

Get the latest news on the 2024 election from our reporters on the campaign trail and in Washington.

Who is running? President Biden and Donald Trump secured their parties’ nominations for the presidency, formalizing a general-election rematch.

Key dates and events: From January to June, voters in all states and U.S. territories will pick their party’s nominee for president ahead of the summer conventions. Here are key dates and events on the 2024 election calendar.

Abortion and the election: Voters in a dozen states in this pivotal election year could decide the fate of abortion rights with constitutional amendments on the ballot. Biden supports legal access to abortion, and he has encouraged Congress to pass a law that would codify abortion rights nationwide. After months of mixed signals about his position, Trump said the issue should be left to states. Here’s how Trump’s abortion stance has shifted over the years.
