Manila has been busy with events for Wine Australia’s Education Development Manager – Asia Pacific Kati Vainionpää DIPWSET, who was there delivering a range of seminars exploring all things Australian wine. The seminars took place between 11 and 13 April and were attended by wine students, sommeliers, buyers, importers and other local wine professionals with each seminar covering different themes and featuring different wines. Last week, Wine Australia conducted a ‘History, Evolution, Revolution’ Seminar in Bangkok on Tuesday 9 April for Thai based wine professionals. The session, hosted by Wine Australia Education Development Manager – Asia Pacific Kati Vainionpää DIPWSET, explored wines from a variety of wine varieties and styles, highlighting the importance of classics and evolution and celebrate the generational shift in attitude and approach – new varieties and classic varieties. On Thursday 28 March, China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) announced that the anti-dumping duties on Australian wine to mainland China were to be removed from 29 March 2024. This is positive news for Australian wine exporters, as mainland China remains an important market for the Australian wine sector.In this Bulletin, we discuss what has changed in the market since the duties were imposed in 2020 and where the potential opportunities are for Australian wine that businesses should consider when building their export strategies.
